[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

Digital Fan has put up a review of Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide. Check out a bit of it now:
There are a few more additions that are worth mentioning. You now have more control over your henchmen in this installment by being able to focus their training in a certain direction like if ur ally is a druid/cleric you can make it so when they level they level up in the druid class and not the cleric class. The game also adds more feats, skills, magic spells, and character portraits and voices, to make the gameplay options even bigger than they were in the original game. The expansion also adds quite a bit of improvements to the Aurora toolset you can now use "wizards" to create shops and storylines easier.

The Simpsons Hit and Run Ships

[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

Another shipping game today, but for PC.. and it's a Simpsons game! This is very similar to a GTA-style game in which you have to do many missions (though it is quite linear). But it is quite fun, though, to drive around in the Simpsons town of Springfield, which is in some state we'll probably never find out the name of. Check this one out - it's really not so bad (at least rent it for one of the consoles).

Nexus

[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

A game under the previous name of "Imperium Galactica 3" is now known simply as Nexus. Check out the press release for detailed information:

Just when it looked like the game formerly known as 'Imperium Galactica 3' would be lost in space, it is now back on track as one of the most eagerly awaited hits of 2004 thanks to a worldwide rights deal announced by Benelux's leading independent publisher HD Interactive of Amsterdam.

Earliest views of the game have inspired such descriptions as 'visceral, futuristic and captivating' and 'absolutely gorgeous' and now the real-time mission-based tactical space game for PC has not only found a new publishing home with HD Interactive but also a new focus with the title 'Nexus'.

Under development in Budapest by Mithis Games, Nexus is heading for a worldwide release in September 2004.

"Nexus is a true gamers' game," said Mike Klumper, MD of HD Interactive. "I was amazed by what I saw of the early code of Nexus. I was blown away by it and we are extremely proud to add this beautiful title to our portfolio.

"Now it has joined our line-up, Nexus will receive the full attention it richly deserves. By working closely with Mithis, a talented and experienced developer, and giving total focus to the product, we will ensure that Nexus realises its maximum potential in each and every territory."

Robert Sugar, CEO of Mithis, said, "Everybody at Mithis is extremely excited about this deal. With HD Interactive's focus, Nexus is in very good hands."

Kult News
Updated at 5:04 PM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

This 3D isometric RPG has acquired a Dutch publisher.

Dutch publisher Project Three Interactive BV today announced it has acquired the European rights for the 3D isometric RPG KULT. Having been in development for almost 3 years by the young and talented Slovakian studio named 3D People, Kult is set for an early Q2-2004 release.

For Kult (previously known as 'Cult'), 3D People is using an in-house developed isometric engine, featuring i.e. zoom and smooth scrolling, dynamic light and day as well as weather changes plus advanced particle systems for dynamic spells, explosions and effects. With the rich animations and beautiful highly detailed environments in over 50 maps, Kult will certainly provide the right amounts of eye-candy.

The player will have the choice to play the game either as an adventure or as an action game. He can explore the parallel astral reality of the Dreamworld, follow the breathtaking story set in the fantasy kingdom of Rywennia by interacting with the many NPC's and completing the 40 epic quests or face the over 30 monsters in combat, using over 100 unique weapons, 50 spells and 25 skills.

Project Three spokesman Erik Schreuder stated: We are very eager to present this promising title and are sure Kult will appeal to the many fantasy fans and RPG players out there. To be honest I can't wait to see it finished. The game is expected to enter beta/gold by March 2004.

Peter Nagy, team leader of 3D People added: We are extremely pleased to get a committed and aggressive publisher like Project Three behind our game and wish the future players as much enjoyment playing Kult as we are having while developing it.

The 'European rights' acquired by Project Three include those for Australia, New Zealand and Israel, but do not include those for Russia and former USSR states.

Simply Gaming has announced "The Green Myste." Check out the press release for more information about this game:

Game Story
"The Grim," legendary monster of the port city of Sanctis, has risen again. The Grim's keep in the centre of the city was walled off more than two centuries ago, and it is from here that the mad creature terrorizes Sanctis. Every night, a sickly green mist pours from the castle's tower windows. All who breathe it turn into zombies that do the Grim's evil bidding. You are Pol, adventurer and son of the city of Sanctis, although it has been many a year since you set foot within its walls. While you slept in the high desert, a prophet appeared in your dreams and told you what has come to pass. You are the city's last hope. Can you solve the riddles that lie beneath its streets as well as the mysteries within the Grim's keep? Will you be the saviour of Sanctis?

Game Scenario
The Green Myste is a first-person, role-playing adventure game. Your character will gain experience and power as the mysteries of Sanctis, the Grim, and the Green Myste are unravelled. You will meet with various adventurers whom you may invite to join you, adding to the skill set and power of your party - all of which will be helpful as you battle hundreds of monsters and defeat countless tricks and traps spread throughout the adventure. When the game starts, you will hear audio clips and see a series of animated graphics that tell the story of what has befallen the city of Sanctis. Uru: Ages Beyond Myst Review
Updated at 1:20 AM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

There's a review of Uru: Ages Beyond Myst up on Gamespot for all of you to check out. Read a quick preview of it now:

Uru is the first game in the series that lets you actually see your character from a third-person view--a character you generate at the start of the game by choosing your appearance and gender. This doesn't have much relevance in the single-player game, though having a unique-looking character may prove more significant in the multiplayer portion. Uru also has absolutely no inventory system--your character does not carry any items and therefore won't encounter any inventory-based puzzles (though there is one puzzle late in the game that requires you to carefully transport a swarm of glittering fireflies that "stick" to your character's body). The game also has hardly any interface elements. You carry the mystical Relto tome to return to your own personal hub area between the different ages, and you can pull up some game menu options, but these appear at the bottom of the screen as small icons and disappear by default so that your view of your surroundings is completely uncluttered.

Deus Ex: Invisible War Demo
Updated at 11:55 PM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

Well, there is a demo finally out for Deus Ex: Invisible War! If you remember the first game, it was basically a mix of first person shooter and RPG elements creating a great game. Perfect mix of both, in my opinion. Anyway, you can grab this demo from 3D Gamers or File Planet.
Approximately 20 years after the events depicted in Deus Ex, the world is only beginning to recover from a catastrophic worldwide depression brought on by technology run amok and a secret conspiratorial war.

The winner-take-all geopolitics of mid-21st century Earth have given way to a struggle over more basic concerns: food, water, reestablishing civil law and cleaning up biological and nano-tech fallout. In this chaotic recovery, several religious and political factions see an opportunity to re-shape a worldwide government to their agendas, understanding that the right moves now could determine the shape of human society for decades - even centuries - to come.

Amidst the debris, the player Alex D. emerges in searching the identities of true players behind the power struggles and the source of his own mysterious origins. In a techno-nightmare of the fragile revival or ultimate decimation of human civilization, take part in a dark dramatic struggle to raise the world from its own ashes.

Final Fantasy XI Review
Updated at 11:50 PM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

RPG Warehouse has a review of Final Fantasy XI up on their site. Here's a little piece:

Final Fantasy XI stands proudly though above the rest. After activating all the codes to install this game, you'll finally be able to make yourself a character. Though I will say, making extra characters will cost your $1 more. Do not get me wrong though, this is not a bad thing at all. This is because; you really have absolutely no need for other characters in the first place. Normally, in other MMORPGs, you make other characters for the sake of trying out new classes and maxing them out to the highest level possible. Well, in FFXI, all you really need is one character to do all that. One character can change jobs at any time, allowing you to become new classes and start all over again without penalty. If you get tired of playing that class, you can also change back to the one you were before, starting out with the same exp and levels you last left it. It's like, allowing your class to take a nap.

Savage Eden: The Battle for Laghaim Release Info
Updated at 8:57 AM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

For whoever has not heard of this game, it is a real-time strategy game with 3rd person action elements. Basically, the main guy builds up the army and then his friends could control certain warriors that do a lot of the dirty work (ie. killing your enemy's warriors and destroying his/her stronghold).

Savage Eden, the US version of the popular Asian online multiplayer game Laghaim, is nearing its release in America. The Nako engineers from Korea are at the iENT center of operations in Cary, NC working hard to make final developments and fine tuning for the United States game launch.

The closed beta registration for the game was well received by the RPG community with over 2,000 applicants in the selection pool. The beta stage is set to begin sometime in early December. IENT appreciates the posts and coverage from gaming sites that have made this great turnout possible.

Savage Eden Game Background:

The young Aidia summoned a strong White Tiger, the human placed a small device on the back of the tiger and Bulkan warrior to prevent them from being turned to stone by the Neo-Progmare Mutant. The human smiled as he heard one of his mine charges explode outside. "The mutant is here. To battle, to victory!"

The Races

Humans - intelligent, strong, dextrous and impossible to control. they craft small equipment that can enhance any creature's power and strength. The small equipment can also be used to enhance the abilities of the heavy weapons available only to humanity.

Bulkans - Massive and brutal, they have weapons with Memory Damage of two types: slayer weapons and weapons of demolition. Slayer is great in the attacking power and demolition causes extraordinary damage when it strikes. Bulkans also have a special weapon they wield called a Charkram and it may have extraordinary powers of its own. The Slayer and Charkram weapons may be enhanced by use of a Grindstone.

Kailiptons - Wielder of arcane magic they use Wands to enhance the powers generated by their Canes. These items can be recharged by Scrolls, which might also contain strong magics to enhance damage done, debilitate enemies or to protect themselves.

Aidia - Short, flying humanoids who can use a mystic item known as a Stone of Calling. This summons a variety of monsters that are stronger as the Aidia character grows more powerful. These creatures will defend or fight at the command of the summoner althought there is damage done to the Stone if the summoned creature dies.

Progmare - Evil personified, they took normal creatures of Laghaim and twisted their bodies and drove them insane with pain to craft their Neo-Progmare. The Neo-Progmare are capable of varied effects, almost all deadly. The most dangerous are the Mutants; strange in color and abilities.

Contract J.A.C.K.
Updated at 2:55 PM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

The prequel to No One Lives Forever 2 has finally shipped and should be in stores shortly! If you liked the games in the series and have not yet tried the demo for this one, I can't say you will like it. It seems very mindless and does not have the spying elements of the other two games. Let's say it's Serious Sam with references to NOLF characters. Depending on your style of gaming, you could either just go ahead and buy this, or you could try the demo (which I recommend).
LOS ANGELES, CA - (November 20, 2003) – Vivendi Universal Games announced today Contract J.A.C.K.™ – the official prequel to GameSpy’s 2002 PC Game-of-the-Year, No One Lives Forever™ 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.’s Way™ is now available on store shelves™. Contract J.A.C.K., developed by Monolith Productions, is a standalone expansion pack set in the No One Lives Forever™ universe that delivers non-stop action with new singleplayer missions, exciting multiplayer modes including Doomsday and Demolition, and a fully documented suite of mod-making tools.

Explore the dark side of the No One Lives Forever universe as John Jack, a rugged anti-hero in the services of H.A.R.M. The legendary chief assassin for H.A.R.M. organization has given Contract J.A.C.K. a mission—whether he wants it or not. An Italian criminal organization has plans to take H.A.R.M. down and Contract J.A.C.K. must stop them. In doing so, players contend with deadly enemies and survive against ridiculous odds to complete the mission.

Contract J.A.C.K. is available now for the PC with a suggested retail price of $29.99 and an ESRB “Mature” rating. For more information, log on to http://nolf.sierra.com.

Battlefront.com has made a new Afrika Korps demo available for the masses to download. Amazingly there is one for PC and one for Mac. Check it out:

The Demo is available for PC as well as Mac (OS 9.x) and is multi-language, i.e. it can install and run in three different languages (English, French and German). The demo comes with two fully playable scenarios.

Frühlingswind, depicts actions at Faid Pass set in Tunisia, February 1943 between the US and Germany.

Line of Defense, is a June 1944 US Armored attack into a small town and key bridge South of Arezzo, Italy held by some staunch German defenders.

Both scenarios are fully multiplayer capable (Hotseat, PBEM and TCP/IP). Further details about the demo can be found at: www.battlefront.com/products/cmak/cmak_demo.html

CM: Afrika Korps has gone gold earlier this month and is in fact already in production. Expected shipping date is December 5th, pre-orders can be placed immediately. More details about the game can be found here: www.battlefront.com/products/cmak/cmak.html

The game will only be available through www.battlefront.com and not sold in retail.

(Customers in Western Europe will find localized German, French and English versions in stores this year, and CMAK will be available in Japan with a localized manual also.)

CyberGroove for PC
Updated at 5:42 PM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

A dancing game similar to the likes of Stepmania and DDR, this one is coming to PCs with its own USB dance pad! Check out the press release:

(Roughly translated, it means: People who genuinely understand and appreciate the finer aspects of modern music will have a jolly good time playing CyberGroove ? Hoorah!)

'WE'RE gonna party, like it's your birthday', 4am are havin' it large in da house with its latest title release; CyberGroove ? the first ever PC dance mat game, which will feature downloadable tracks and dance steps, keeping it fresh for many years to come.

CyberGroove marks the first ever dance mat title for the PC with a new never-heard-before selection of music. Boasting 16 varied tracks, frantic footwork gameplay, downloadable steps and music and eye blistering colour graphics and lighting effects, CyberGroove will stand up and boogie on, remaining fresh when typical Playstation titles have puffed their last tired breath ? after all there are only so many times that you can dance to S-Club 7!!

In a daring move, 4am has turned its back on known celebrity tracks and has instead looked towards its sister company Big Dish Productions to produce all of the in-game music. Taking familiar styles from Dance, Club, Trance, R&B, Pop, Old Skool and House players are sure to relate to the many different types of music.

Blurring the lines and drawing the music industry closer to the games sector, Big Dish Productions will be launching a new artist in conjunction with CyberGroove in Q1 2004.

Neil Cotton, Communications Director at 4am, said: "Dance mat games are a real party sensation, but the only platform that they are available for is Sony's Playstation console. Although this accounts for a large fan base, the number of homes with a PC far outweighs that of the console market, but until now the PC has been neglected. We are filling that void with CyberGroove."

The dance steps have been specially choreographed to give the player the maximum effect when dancing. The 8 way dance mat is connected through a USB plug and gives the player access to three different modes of play. The first two are a typical single or double player mode but the third is a unique 'together' option where two people can dance on just one mat simultaneously. One player controls the back half the mat and the other player the front half ? of course this means some extremely close dancing moves, so make sure you really like the person you're dancing with first!

The graphics portray a mix of eye blistering colour and fast moving images, making the arcade dance sensation feel complete. There are no age restrictions and the gameplay needs no introduction ? just follow the arrows and feel the grooooove!

Developed by Taiwan-based Front Far East this unique and outstanding dance mat game (for Windows computers) will be fully-translated and feature European dance tracks for the UK market and published under license by 4am Entertainment ? scheduled for release on Friday 23rd January 2004.

Key Features:

8-way dance mat

Multiple characters to play and selectable difficulty levels

Game boxed with USB dance mat for just £29.99 (at least £30 cheaper than a Playstation dance mat game)

Three modes of play

New musical talent is a break-though for this type of game

16 standard tracks with a customisable download option to keep the game fresh, allowing the player to customise the game to their own music tastes

Eye blistering graphics

Wide variety of track styles from R&B to Pop

Pacific Warrior 2 - Dogfight
Updated at 6:29 PM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

There is a press release regarding this game following this bit of text from me... Anyway, before you get on to reading it, I have added four screenshots for you to view.
STRAP yourself into the cockpit of a WWII fighter plane and take the fight into the sky with Pacific Warriors 2 ? Dogfight!

You choose your allegiance; are you a fly-boy of the US Air Force or do you have the strict discipline of a Japanese fighter pilot?

4am Entertainment Corporation Ltd brings all of the excitement ? and danger ? of WWII aerial combat to the home computer with Pacific Warriors 2 ? Dogfight! Boasting 50 missions (25 per side), four unique historical planes to fly and fully animated landscapes with anti-aircraft placements, vehicles and battleships; the game is set to become a blast-fest for total supremacy of the skies.

Bringing in a unique RPG element, the loading of the weapons is a simple affair using a points system to upgrade guns and bombs, letting the games player get into the action almost immediately. Points are awarded at the end of each mission based on completion time, number of enemies and placements destroyed and accuracy of weapons, to name but a few. Fighter controls are intuitive and fully compatible with all third party flight sticks and throttle combinations.

Involving gameplay provides a varied list of missions such as flying the bombing runs of enemy cargo and battleships to the calculated displacement of anti-aircraft gun sites on the shores of the remote pacific islands. Frenzied dogfights ensue as you keep the invaders away from allied airfields and villages. In the dead of night the player faces numerous recon missions, spotting any suspicious enemy activity and reporting it back to base.

Creating a climatic atmosphere, the developers have included realistic radio chatter ? which includes (for those fluent in Japanese) a bucket full of swearing and cussing from the Japanese pilot as his plane gets shot down!

Attention to detail has been a key focus in the game, giving the player a satisfying feeling when a plane is hammered out of the sky, a landmark is accurately bombed or a torpedo hits the water. Smouldering debris, trees in flames, billowing black smoke and huge water splashes are order of the day ? and unlike a lots of games of its genre ? the subsequent battlefield damage remains throughout the duration of the mission.

Following a historical time line after the events of Pearl Harbour, the player begins on a training mission, which gets cut short as the call for war goes out over the radio airwaves. Very quickly a crucial decision needs to be made. The plane is in the air and is armed with machine guns, but is designed for bombing runs not dogfights. Should you take it back to the airfield and swap it for the nimble fighter plane? Time is running out and the enemy fighters are approaching...

Developed by Denmark-based InterActive Vision, this outstanding flight-shoot 'em up (for Windows computers) will be fully-translated for the UK market and published under license by 4am Entertainment ? scheduled for a Q1 2004 launch.

Key Features:

RPG element - upgrading plane stats though a points based system

Battle damage animation, burning trees and gratifying carnage!

'Dogfight', 'Recon' and 'Bombing' missions

50 missions ? with ad-hoc submissions - for game play longevity

Campaign missions with increasing difficulty

Ability to change aircraft mid-way through a mission

Multiple views; including a special bomb targeting camera.

Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup Demo
Updated at 3:17 PM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

There's a new demo available of Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup.

Take to the air in the first game that allows players to fully experience the magical speed, power, and competition of Quidditch, the favorite sport of witches and wizards, in the Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup game. For the first time, gamers will experience the full complexity and exciting challenge of Quidditch, which involves two teams of seven players who fly on broomsticks, playing four balls simultaneously. Players will control every position on their team, including three Chasers who try to score with the Quaffle, two Beaters who control the dangerous Bludgers, the Keeper who protects the goal, and the Seeker who chases the elusive Golden Snitch that must be caught to end the match.

Starting with any one of the four Hogwarts House teams-including Harry Potter's Gryffindor - players learn Quidditch basics with five original challenges and the Hogwarts House Cup competition. Once completed, players can enter the international World Cup tournament, choosing from a range of international teams including the USA, Bulgaria featuring Victor Krum, the hard-hitting Nordics, England, Japan, Germany, France, and Australia. Each national team sports its own Quidditch gear, has a unique stadium environment, and different strengths that lend depth and strategy, especially when two gamers face off for the first-ever Harry Potter multiplayer competition.

The Quidditch World Cup tournament progresses through a unique ladder system where players must defeat the team ranked above them by a variable amount of points, making the choice of when to go after the Golden Snitch a tactical one - capture it before amassing enough points to advance up the ladder and you may win the match but lose a chance to advance.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Dynamic Atmospherics
Updated at 6:10 PM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

The devs of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., an amazingly beautiful game set in the Chernobyl area, have released this press release discussing the atmospheric effects. It is very well written for a press release!

"Nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands." e.e. cummings.

Storm clouds gather in the moonlit sky. A chill wind blows through the abandoned playground and leaves gather to cover the decaying husks of once recognisable, once friendly creatures. The changeable world of STALKER has you now. Will you run? Will you sleep? Will you hide and wait? Every decision you make now will affect the rest of your time here - however short a time that turns out to be.

In STALKER every wind is an ill one and every night follows day as GSC's dynamic weather system shapes the environment around you. Gone is the safety of pseudo-realistic games. STALKER works with the environment in the most sinister, most natural ways. Behind every change in weather, behind each night/day cycle is an engine offering enormous gameplay possibilities. Shaders, shadows and volumetric effects such as fog, mist and lighting are efficiently integrated into a game experience which redefines current expectations of the word 'dynamic'. GSC's ground breaking technology gives us new layers of gameplay - layers absent from all other FPS games.

This engine is controlled by an advanced AI that creates unscripted challenges through a series of complex rules. Those shadows hide more than fear. That wind affects the migration of pack animals or the sleeping patterns of other Stalkers. Then there is the rain. And the fog that stretches across the landscape and reaches into your heart. These things task you. They tire you and as dawn begins to break your choice to stay awake, fearful of the next surprise, has taken its toll. But insomnia is only a part of it.

Daylight brings a whole new set of problems...

Deus Ex 3 Already?
Updated at 10:37 PM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

It appears that Computer and Video Games.com (http://www.computerandvideogames.com) have gotten word of a 3rd installment of Deus Ex being in the works. With the second one not even released yet, this is quite a surprise and I think it is just the developers trying to cause hype. I think that with what we've seen in the past few months with the Half-Life 2 ordeal, companies shouldn't be trying to hype their games too much until there is a substantial amount of the actual game. Read more on this story here.

Background Story: Arulco's economy has completely collapsed and the country has now become a base for international drug cartels. Export of precious metals, which was the foundation of Arulco's economy, is now just a cover for the extensive export of drugs into North America.

The North American Drug Agency has been unable to affect the export of drugs through regular diplomatic channels due to the cartels' influence and has been forced to take more specific action to stop the drug trade. You are sent in as a leader of a small band of hired guns, your mission: the elimination of all key personnel of the Arulcan Government and, if possible, the complete extermination of the drug cartels. If successful, you will be hailed as heroes. If you fail, the Agency will deny all knowledge of the operation.

Wildfire includes modifications to all aspects of the original game. Changes were made to all weapons, landscapes, structures, missions, enemies and the AI. All elements within the game were altered to make it more realistic, bringing it closer to real-life.

Real World, Real Weapons, Real Enemies... REAL TROUBLE!

Features:

Improvements to all structures within the game to closer match real-life facilities.

Added tall grass, bushes, stones, and trees to sections of the map which were barren, which allows for better coverage for units and changes combat tactics.

All military facilities have increased their defensive capabilities. They have added mine fields, fences, watchtowers, perimeter lighting and alarms.

All weapons have been rebalanced to better reflect real-life weapon characteristics.

New weapons have been added:
- USP Uzi UMP MP5A3 Mini-30
- HK33 G36 MP7 MSG90 AN-94
- RPK V-94 VAL VSS

And all existing weapons' graphics and sounds have been replaced to make them more realistic.

The importance of sub-quests has been increased and now plays a major role in the game's overall flow.

The Mafia has taken on a new role and is now part of the Arulcan order.

The number of enemies has increased and they are a lot smarter and more ruthless this time around.

Available in retail stores in Q1 2004 for $19.99 USD, Jagged Alliance2: Wildfire will also include the original title Jagged Alliance 2. For more information go to www.strategyfirst.com

Restricted Area
Updated at 1:40 PM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

There's a new action RPG on the way that apparently offers around 160 hours of gameplay... That's quite amazing for a shooter! Check out some screen shots here and read the following press release:

VACANCY - UNDERWORLD MERCENARY REQUIRED, GOOD SALARY, IMMEDIATE START!

2083 is the time period of 4am's latest game 'Restricted Area', offering an all action RPG set in an apocalyptic future, where the player takes on the characteristics of one of four freelance mercenaries.

Freaky mutants, corrupt cops, dodgy market traders and a failing political body that is controlled by wealthy mega-corporations... No, it isn't tomorrow's Sun headlines, it is actually the year 2083!

4am Entertainment Corporation Ltd brings all of the sci-fi action and atmosphere from films like Aliens and Blade Runner and moulds it together into a frantic action RPG shooter, boasting over 160 hours of solid gameplay and four unique characters to control ? each having two different possible endings.

The game is fluid in both its storyline and the visual appeal of the graphics, which includes dark atmospheric mutant breeding chambers and pre-rendered images taken from fully motion captured characters. The pace of the game and the frantic shooting element will attract a wide variety of players, including many gamers that have never played RPG's before.

A selection of hot-keys have been added to the main playing screen allowing 'health-ups' to be administered during a major skirmish. Gun swapping and power-ups are also accessible in the heat of the action by clicking a button, giving the player instant access to the most important parts of their inventory.

The characters within Restricted Area are all wildly different from each other in storyline and abilities. Johnson is a gun-toting ex-member of government special forces who has turned to crime after the Mega-Corporations took over.
Victoria is the first human to be found with psychic capabilities and for this reason was kidnapped. She doesn't know her real name or her parents, but knows that after breaking out of a research lab, she must stay on the run to avoid her enemies. Kenji is an honourable Japanese sword master who murdered his own father, but has since lost his memory and wants to know what happened to him in his past. Jessica is a cyber-hacker who was jailed for life for her part in a huge data crime at the age of 17. Whilst in jail, Jessica built herself a robot protector to help her break out of her confines. After breaking loose, Jessica is on the run with her robot, living on money earned by hacking cyberchannels for paying corporations.

RPG'ers will instantly recognise the strategically placed boxes, containing cash or left over weapons. To progress in Restricted Area, gamers will be seeking contacts within the crime underworld, spending their cold hard cash on provisions, new weapons and new limbs!!

This game takes the RPG genre beyond the normal 'spell upgrade' system found in most other titles, allowing the player to build upon their psychic capabilities and replace vital limbs, building the original flesh and blood character into a super-human cyborg!

Outstanding AI has been applied to all enemies, making them either the dumbest thing in dumbville ? running mindlessly at your plasma gun just asking to be fried on the spot, or the smartest possible smarty-pants taking pot shots from behind the scenery whilst assessing your firepower before making a mad dash for the alarm and calling more re-enforcements.

Developed by German-based Master Creating, this outstanding action RPG (for Windows computers) will be fully-translated for the UK market and published under license by 4am Entertainment ? scheduled for a April 2004 launch.

Key Features:

Multiple character selection

Unique non-linear story lines with multiple endings

Bio-upgrades

Cooperative Multiplayer mode

Unlimited computer generated subquests and levels

Upgradeable points-based skills

Psychic attack modes

On-screen hot keys allows the player to take health boosts in the middle of hot action with no delay to the gameplay

Over 20+ hours of solid gameplay per storyline = 160+ hours for entire game

Kill.switch and Pac-Man World 2 Next Year
Updated at 1:06 PM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

Two fairly popular Namco games will be released on PC under the publisher L.S.P.

LAS VEGAS, November 5, 2003 - To honor automotive excellence and celebrate car culture, Sony Computer Entertainment America, publisher of the best-selling Gran Turismo® racing franchise for PlayStation®/PlayStation 2, hosted the first-ever Gran Turismo 4 (GT4) Awards yesterday at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) auto show in Las Vegas. In its inaugural year, the GT4 Awards marked a historic collaboration of videogame and auto enthusiasts, while featuring a distinguished line-up of entries from top SEMA show exhibitors, all vying for the coveted honor of being dubbed "Best in Show," a title that included the historic privilege of having their vehicle inserted into the revolutionary Gran Turismo 4 driving simulator for PlayStation 2. Held at Las Vegas hot-spot Ghostbar in the Palms Hotel/Casino Resort, the GT4 Awards highlighted six categories that included "Best Truck/SUV," "Best Japanese Import," "Best European Import," "Best Domestic Automobile," "Best Hot Rod" and the coveted "Best in Show." The Best in Show vehicle will not only be inserted into the upcoming Gran Turismo 4 videogame, but will be available for all consumers to soon view and drive, virtually making it the talk of the automobile industry.

"The Gran Turismo 4 Awards honor and exemplify the high level of passion and enthusiasm that both auto enthusiasts and the Gran Turismo racing franchise possess," said Kazunori Yamauchi, famed creator of the Gran Turismo series. "Through the GT4 Awards and the support of the automotive community, Gran Turismo 4 can not only be seen as a game, but as a unique medium to learn, enjoy and experience automotive culture like never before."

"The attention paid to detail in Gran Turismo 4 is extraordinary. From the topography of the race course to the sunlight dancing off a car's body panel. Even the brake lights light up appropriately," said Sam Mitani, International Editor, Road & Track Magazine. "The GT4 Awards goes to show how committed the makers of this great driving game are to automotive enthusiasm. The Gran Turismo series isn't just celebrating car culture, they have become an integral part of it."

Entries for the GT4 Awards included vehicles encompassing manufacturers around the globe. GT4 Awards category winners were selected by representatives from popular automotive media outlets including Road & Track, Motor Trend, Popular Hot Rodding Television and Super Street, with the "Best in Show" award being selected by legendary Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi.

The overall winner was Ted and Sue Richardson who were honored with the "Best in Show" award for their one-of-kind 1962 Buick Special. In addition to the hardware, the Richardson's 1962 Buick Special will set a new standard for visibility among auto enthusiasts as their vehicle will be drivable in Gran Turismo 4 when it is available worldwide for PlayStation 2 in 2004.
The "Best Truck/SUV" honor was presented to Dustin Whipple for his 2004 Ford F-150.

Walking away with the award for "Best Japanese Import" was Craig Wilson for his 1992 Acura NSX Coupe.

In the "Best European Import" category, Werner Funk took first prize for his 2001 Renault Clio Sport

The "Best Domestic Automobile" award was given to Michael Jackson for his 2003 Saturn Ion outfitted with Gude Performance Parts. The final category, which was for "Best Hot Rod," was awarded to the overall Best in Show award winners - Ted and Sue Richardson with their one-of-kind 1962 Buick Special.

With more than 30 million units sold worldwide, the Gran Turismo franchise is regarded as the best and most authentic driving simulation ever created. For the launch of Gran Turismo 4, a new standard will be set for authentic racing action with upwards of 500 cars and 50 tracks encompassing auto manufacturers and courses from around the world, as well as realistic driving physics.

Far Cry Delayed
Updated at 8:54 PM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

Instead of being released in the near future, this game has been pushed into the first quarter of next year. Check out the press release:

November 5 , 2003 – Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers and Crytek announced two rising stars of game development have joined the already talented Far CryTM development team.

The game's next phase in development will focus on multiplayer excellence, and leading development is Chris Auty as lead multiplayer level designer and Richard Tsao as the multiplayer producer for the game. Auty and Tsao are tasked with developing a compelling multiplayer experience as innovative as the spectacularly deep single-player game. Far Cry is a first-person shooter set in a lush tropical paradise that sets out to bring the first-person shooter to an entirely new level of entertainment and technical excellence. The expansive plans to Far Cry's unique multiplayer modes and lightning-fast online play have extended its development period to Q1 2004.

Auty joins the Far Cry team with an impressive resumé of FPS experience. As a leader within the FPS community, he is probably best known for his distinctive map designs, especially within the Counter Strike culture. Auty is famed from his design of the "Inferno" and "Aztec" maps in Counter Strike. His influence is evident in the development of some of the most prolific shooting games ever created. He led design teams for Half-Life: Counter Strike and James Bond 007: Nightfire, and has contributed to Half-Life: Day of Defeat, Counter-Strike and Condition Zero. Auty brings his considerable shooter experience and distinguishing design techniques to Far Cry's already visually stunning scenery and technically advanced gameplay.

"I came to Far Cry to work on the next great shooter; the team here at Crytek has raised the quality bar in terms of visuals, gameplay and AI standards of a FPS game," said Auty. "Far Cry's engine is amazingly adaptive to new types of gameplay, making designing multiplayer levels one of my best creative experiences to date."

Richard Tsao joins as Far Cry's multiplayer producer following a string of successful projects, including leading the teams for Asheron's Call 2, Dungeon Siege and MechWarrior 4. Tsao brings his successful formula to the production of Far Cry's multiplayer and mod community support.

"In regards to technology, everyone will remember Far Cry as the game that introduced the next wave of "must have" FPS features," said Tsao. "People will undoubtedly credit Far Cry for driving the genre forward."

Far Cry features non-scripted AI, unmatchable view distance and is set on a beautiful tropical island with the lushest terrain ever seen in a FPS. Additionally, the game's stunning graphics, freely explorable indoor and outdoor environments, authentic physics-on-demand, variety of gameplay, and universally acclaimed pick-up-and-play level editor will set new benchmarks in the genre. Nosferatu: Wrath of Malachi Review
Updated at 6:28 PM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

Gaming Age has put up a review of Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi. I've played the demo of this game and may play the full version sometime soon. To me, the graphics seemed a bit outdated, but it was scary as hell to play. The scary effects were done in the movie way, though. You know, loud noises and fast images.

Audio also plays a big part in the presentation. Brilliant voice acting from many supporting characters and cut scenes can be heard to move the story along nicely. The game’s surround sound is incredible, and the surprising shock audio will no doubt make you jump out of your computer chair more than once. Whether it’s a dog coming from a corridor, a monster lunging towards you, or even the crashing of thunder a just the right moment, the game knows how to touch a nerve. The music is somber and gothic setting an unsettling feeling as you wonder the castle. Like the sound effects the music also knows when to hit the loud shocking notes at just the right moment. The other effects such as weapons and holy crucifix effects are done genuinely well. Like the dark visuals, the audio plays a big part in the scare factor, and succeeds with pant wetting results.

Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring Review
Updated at 6:23 PM
[-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

There is a review of War of the Ring up on Game-over.net. Check out a little snippet:

Remarkably, the most exciting mission is one that doesn’t involve any building at all, and that’s the defense of Helm’s Deep – the one so vividly portrayed in the recent film. Helm’s Deep is like a series of gauntlets (yes, you do defend that little sewer grate that should really have no reason to exist) that tests your ability to maintain an ordered fighting battle strategy in multiple locations on the map. You’re given all the usual heroes -- Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas -- but they can’t all be at one location so as time counts down to the arrival of Gandalf and the minions of Saruman swarm in ever greater numbers, it’s up to you to multitask and manage your limited to resources to hold off the inevitable.

A 100 MB demo of this racing game is available to download at 3D Gamers. Here's the description of the game, as taken from 3D Gamers:

NASCAR Thunder 2004 puts gamers behind the wheel in a world where grudges and alliances mean the difference between the victory lane and disaster. Players no longer just race on a track, they're racing a pack of 42 real-world stars who think for themselves, remember your every move, and aren't afraid to pay you back. Revenge may be around the corner or at the next race, as players scream through 23 authentic tracks or hone their road racing skills on 11 fantasy tracks. The key to success is building alliances that carry from race to race and season to season in an improved career mode that challenges gamers to manage sponsors, teams, garages, and crews while building a 20-year racing legacy. Online or on your own, racing just became a contact sport.

Based on New Line Cinema and Peter Jackson's upcoming film adaptation of the classic novel, The Lord of the Rings; The Return of the King video game will once again put the fate of Middle-earth(TM) in the hands of gamers as they become the hero in a cinematic action adventure of epic scale. In the final installment of the blockbuster movie trilogy, players must destroy the One Ring by casting it into the Crack of Doom, freeing Middle-earth from the clutches of the Dark Lord Sauron.

EA's second The Lord of the Rings action adventure game, The Lord of the Rings; The Return of the King will allow players to journey through multiple gameplay paths, taking control of the motion picture's heroes. Defend the walls of Minas Tirith as Gandalf, raise the Army of the Dead as Aragorn, Legolas, or Gimli, and with Frodo and Sam, deliver the ring to the fiery depths of Mount Doom.

Based on the breathtaking environments from the upcoming film, The Lord of the Rings; The Return of the King's third person gameplay will include immersive action and adventure elements set in rich, interactive levels. Fans eagerly awaiting the third theatrical installment (hitting theaters nationwide on December 17, 2003) will have a "sneak peek" opportunity to see and experience footage from "The Return of the King" movie. In addition to actual footage, over 200,000 production assets from the movie were used in the game's development, along with portrayals and voiceovers from the film cast members, motion capture data from the movie stunt team, and an immersive musical score composed by Academy Award-winner Howard Shore.

An all-new multiplayer cooperative mode will let players form their own Fellowship before embarking on their journey through Middle-earth. The PlayStation 2 console version features two-player online cooperative play throughout the entire game's fifteen levels. From game lobbies, players can find their friends through buddy lists and chat via EA Messenger instant messaging, or be paired automatically with a gamer of comparable level. Players will be able to choose any two of the six playable characters, and chat hands-free for maximum teamwork. An Internet connection, network adaptor, and memory card for the PlayStation 2 console are required for online play.

The Lord the Rings; The Return of the King, which was developed by EA Redwood Shores Studio (Amaze Entertainment for Game Boy Advance), is rated "T" (Teen) by the ESRB and retails for $49.95 on console platforms and $39.95 for PC and Game Boy Advance. For more information on online features of the product, see the platform-specific pages of the official franchise website at http://lordoftherings.eagames.com.

Under an exclusive licensing agreement with New Line Cinema, EA has the rights to create and publish interactive entertainment games based on the movie trilogy. A real-time strategy game for the PC, The Lord of the Rings(TM), The Battle for Middle-earth(TM), is under development for release in 2004.

    Blade and Sword Announced
    Updated at 5:14 PM
    [-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

An official statement has been released regarding Blade and Sword. We already knew of the game's existence a few weeks back, but now it is "official." It seems like an interesting action RPG, so this one may be worth a look. We'll have to see when is gets released, though.

London, November 3rd 2003 - Going for a Chinese will never be the same again thanks to razor-sharp, kung-fu adventure game 'Blade & Sword', which is being released by notorious game publisher Whiptail Interactive in mid-November. Built by maverick developer Pixel Studio, this high-energy game, set in ancient China, will go on sale in all serious gaming outlets across the UK, Europe and North America.

"Well run me through with a razor-sharp samurai sword," whispered a wide-eyed Chris Warrender, publishing director of 'Blade & Sword' publisher, Whiptail Interactive. "This bloodthirsty slice and dice kung-fu game will give all those Tarantino fans something else to talk about after they have finished fantasising over 'Kill Bill'."

The game will usher in a new era in RPG (role-playing games) with its mix of amazing action and breathtaking martial arts. Players will be able to fully submerse themselves in the game, believing they are really there thanks to a virtual weather system that provides real-time 12 hour day and night periods with full screen light and shadow effects.

Players can choose to play one of three unique characters in the game, use 36 separate kung-fu attacks to defeat their opponents, as well as 12 super attacks for when they need to kick some serious butt. Over 140 hours of game-play will keep gamers occupied while they kick, chop, hack, thrust and slice their way through the game's 40 levels, which are divided into three chapters. There are four difficulty levels for those who are quick to master games.

There are 40 different monsters lurking within the game, each with its own special melee attack to keep players on their toes. If that wasn't enough to contend with, the monsters benefit from 'array grouping combat AI' (artificial intelligence) that lets them work together against you in new and unpredictable ways.

For further information on the game, please visit:

    Nyko Air Flo Gamepad Review
    Updated at 4:27 PM
    [-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

XGR has a Nyko Air Flo review up on their site. If you're not familiar with it, this gamepad has internal fans that cool down your hands, so for those intense gaming sessions, your hands do not sweat as much as they normally may.
To disperse air, the Air Flo PC has an intake fan on the back of the unit which sends air through ventilated pores found on the joystick’s rubber handgrips. The fan actually reminds me of a CPU fan (and is as noisy). One of the most interesting features of the joystick is the ability to customize the amount of cooling necessary for your needs. You can adjust the fans speed using a switch located in the middle of the device. The switch features two settings, high and low. There’s actually a third setting that let’s you turn off the controller’s cooling. At the lower speed, the device produces a comfortable amount of air. When on the higher setting, the joystick dispenses a massive amount of air that truly eliminates any signs of perspiration during usage. Be warned though, the joystick can be as noisy as your PC when set to the highest level.

An Enter the Matrix Sequel Possibility
    Updated at 4:14 PM
    [-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

According to a post on Matrixfans.net, there is a sequel in the works for Enter the Matrix, a game released earlier this year based on a side-story that coincides with the one in the second movie.

Enter the Matrix hit to less than great response, but that isn't stopping them from making a sequel. This fall, Shiny is releasing "Enter the Matrix DVD Special Edition" which includes a DVD packed with added features and additional content!

Well, now we also have evidence of a follow-up, and hopefully more pollished up than the first was at the time of release.

Also, we're working on a massive update to the Enter the Matrix section of the site.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Preview
    Updated at 4:06 PM
    [-=masterfork=-] - 0 Comment(s)

UGO has a preview of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. As some of you may know, it is based on the Half-Life 2 engine.

One of the major differences between Bloodlines and Redemption is that, where Redemption ran as a third-person title on a dated engine, Bloodlines will be playable in first-person and third-person on Valve's brand-new Source engine. Yup, all the cool-ass physics, slick facial animations and gorgeous graphical splendor in Half-Life 2 will find its way into Bloodlines. In fact, I can't help but think that Bloodlines may be even a better illustration of the power of Source, as getting up close and personal is what RPGs are all about.

    Contract J.A.C.K. Gone Gold

It appears that the prequel to Monolith's recent hit games (No One Lives Forever 1 and 2) has gone gold. From what I understand, this game features more on the action elements that the prior ones offered. I am actually looking forward to this one as I always enjoyed this series. Look out for a demo coming November 6th (hopefully).
